The program combines community reporting, local surveillance, and rapid communication to notify residents when dangerous wildlife is spotted in the community. Our goal is to separate people and wildlife before contact occurs.

Most attacks occur during routine activities, fetching water, grazing animals, crossing rivers, washing clothes or bathing. Without prior information, people unknowingly enter wildlife space.

How the alert system works

Trained Community Wildlife Scouts do regular patrols and monitor known hotspot areas.  When wildlife is spotted alerts are immediately send through whatsapp groups, schools and the information spreads fast through word of mouth. Residents then avoid the areas.

Community members also report sightings, creating a two-way information system. This crowdsourced data helps identify recurring hotspots and improves future prediction.

Alerts are shared with the Kenya Wildlife Service  Kaboson station to enable faster response and reinforce safety measures.
